Officials on Wednesday began inspecting large-scale electric sliding gates at government premises after the death of a security guard earlier in the week at Yaumatei Maternal and Child Health Centre.

The security guard, 43, was struck by a falling car park gate on Monday afternoon and later died in hospital.

The Labour Department has launched a probe into the case.

The victim's mother, meanwhile, complained that the government has not contacted the family or offered them support.

She added that it's the government's responsibility to inspect the gate.

The Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims, which is assisting the family, called on officials to meet with the family and offer help as soon as possible.
