A high-speed electric passenger train and an inspection train, customised for a high-speed rail network in Indonesia, has left the port of Qingdao in eastern Shandong province.

The trains, which began their journey on Sunday, were designed and manufactured for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail, a landmark project under Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The first trains will arrive in the capital Jakarta by the end of August, and the delivery of the remainder will be finished in batches by the beginning of 2023, according to manufacturer CRRC Qingdao Sifang.

The trains have a maximum operating speed of 350km per hour and were adapted to the local operational environment and line conditions in Indonesia.

With a length of 142km, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway connects the capital with Bandung, a famous tourist city.

Late last month, the leaders of China and Indonesia pledged to scale up trade and expand cooperation in areas such as agriculture and food security.

Beijing also hailed Jakarta as a model strategic partner. (Additional reporting by Xinhua)
