The Education Bureau on Thursday suspended classes of all AM and whole-day schools due to the Gale Signal No.8 being in force. These categories of schools include kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability, schools for children with intellectual disability, primary and secondary schools.

The bureau said if the Hong Kong Observatory replaced the number 8 signal with either the number 3 or number 1 signals before 10.30 am, classes of PM primary and secondary schools, and classes of evening schools, would resume today. It said this would also be the case if all signals were cancelled.

The Observatory issued the number 8 signal on Wednesday evening as severe tropical storm Ma-on approached Hong Kong.
