The southern technology hub of Shenzhen reported 35 new locally transmitted Covid-19 infections for Monday, up from 11 a day earlier, the Health Commission of Guangdong Province said on Tuesday.

Monday's local infections – including 24 symptomatic and 11 asymptomatic cases – come after the city suspended services at 24 subway stations in a bid to curb the outbreak.

The world's largest electronics market of Huaqiangbei has been temporarily closed as well.

Three key buildings in the sprawling area, comprised of thousands of stalls selling microchips, telephone parts, and other components to manufacturers, will stay closed until Friday.

Meanwhile, the mainland reported 1,717 new local Covid-19 infections for Monday, of which 349 were symptomatic and 1,368 were asymptomatic, according to the National Health Commission. (Additional reporting by Reuters)
