The Hong Kong Badminton Association said on Thursday that it has cancelled this year's Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships due to the city's Covid restrictions.
The event in November was meant to have been part of a world tour organised by the Badminton World Federation.
The association said Hong Kong’s infection control policy means over 400 overseas players and officials would have needed to spend up to 10 days in an isolation "bubble" for training and matches.
In a statement, it said the difference between Hong Kong’s Covid protocols and quarantine arrangements and those for other World Tour events meant it had to cancel the Hong Kong tournament.
“We will continue to strive towards our next Hong Kong Open,” it said.
