Astronauts of the Shenzhou-14 spaceship have conducted extra-vehicular activities for the first time.

According to the China Manned Space Agency, astronauts Chen Dong and Liu Yang exited the space station lab module Wentian for their first spacewalk, Thursday evening Beijing time.

The other astronaut, Cai Xuzhe, stayed inside the module for technical support.

In the seven-hour spacewalk, Chen and Liu will install a number of pieces of equipment, including an extra-vehicular workstation, among other tasks.

Shenzhou-14 was launched on June 5, sending the astronauts to the under-construction Tiangong space station. (Additional reporting by Xinhua)
