A lockdown in Chengdu has been extended as mainland health authorities reported 1,552 new Covid-19 cases.
According to the National Health Commission, there were 303 locally transmitted and 1,249 local asymptomatic cases on Sunday.
Sichuan accounted for 105 and 80 of those infections, respectively.
The provincial capital, Chengdu, extended its lockdown by three days to Wednesday for most of its 21 million residents, with more mass testing to be conducted.
Chengdu was placed under lockdown last Thursday.
Guangdong, meanwhile, recorded 63 locally transmitted and 26 local asymptomatic infections.
There are signs that the outbreak in Shenzhen is stabilising. The number of new local cases fell to 71 on Sunday from 89 a day earlier.
By Monday, restrictions on dining and certain park visits in Shenzhen were eased, and many subway stations resumed operation. (Agencies)
