Hong Kong has identified its first suspected case of monkeypox, sources have told RTHK.

It is understood that a patient believed to be carrying the virus is currently being examined in Queen Mary Hospital.

No further details about the patient are known at this stage, although the suspected infection is believed to have been imported.

The government said last week that it hopes to get hold of a monkeypox vaccine this month.

Most cases of monkeypox are mild and clear up on their own within a few weeks, although around a dozen deaths have recently been reported worldwide.

Symptoms include rash, fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, exhaustion, muscle pain, and severe headaches.
