Beijing and Moscow said they will work to steer the international order in a more just and reasonable direction, after top diplomats from the two countries hailed Sino-Russian relations.

Senior Chinese foreign policy advisor Yang Jiechi said that under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the relationship between the two countries has always been on the right track, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry published on Monday.

Yang, who met Russia's ambassador to China Andrey Denisov, said Beijing is willing to work with Moscow to continue high-level strategic cooperation, safeguard common interests and "make the international order more just and equitable".

Denisov, for his part, said bilateral relations "have reached a historic high and entered a new era".

The outgoing ambassador recently held meetings with senior Chinese officials who commended his contributions to bilateral ties, China Daily reported.

In a meeting earlier this month, Foreign Minister Wang Yi called him a "good friend, old friend and true friend" of the Chinese people.
