Hong Kong on Wednesday logged 7,579 new Covid infections, 161 of which were imported cases.
Ten more chronically ill patients – aged between 72 and 99 – have died with Covid in the previous day.
2,834 Covid patients are currently being treated in public hospitals. 51 of them are in critical condition, and 13 are under intensive care.
Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan of the Centre for Health Protection said officials will continue monitoring the Covid trend, although the daily infection figures have come down slightly in recent days.
“Various indicators have indicated [the Covid situation] has become a bit more stable, the only thing we need to see now is whether the [transmission of the Omicron] BA.5 [sub-variant] has peaked,” she said.
“And we also need to see if there will be a rebound in cases after the holiday.”
