The mainland reported 1,925 new Covid infections on October 8, the same as the previous day, the National Health Commission said on Sunday.

Of the total, 503 were symptomatic and 1,422 were asymptomatic, which China counts separately.

Beijing recorded six new local symptomatic cases on Saturday, with two asymptomatic infections.

Shanghai reported two new local symptomatic case, and 19 asymptomatic cases.

The mainland's tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases with symptoms is 253,141, with the death toll unchanged at 5,226.
