Hong Kong on Saturday reported 5,953 new coronavirus infections, including 364 imported cases.

Seven more patients with Covid have died.

The Centre for Health Protection said over 90 percent of the infections recorded in the past week involve the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 mutant strains.

The centre added that it is closely monitoring cases involving other new variants.

A spokesman appealed to those who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19, especially the elderly, chronic patients and children, to receive the shots as early as possible.
