Police say a man has died after the coach he was driving hit the barriers near Pak Sha Wan on Hiram's Highway on Monday morning. The vehicle had been heading towards Kowloon.

Police said they received a report about the accident just after 7 am, with rescuers unable to open the door of the coach at first.

Officers said the driver was evacuated with head injuries to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

Police said there didn't appear to be any other injuries, although details were preliminary at this stage.

The accident caused serious congestion on the highway for much of Monday morning, with traffic reduced to a single lane.
