The Wine and Dine Festival will return to Hong Kong next month with over 700 bars and restaurants taking part, its organiser announced on Tuesday.

The Tourism Board said it will hand out 50,000 e-coupons worth HK$100 or HK$150 to customers who sign up on its online platform. People with the vouchers can also redeem a free drink or snack at the participating restaurants or bars.

It added that some of the coupons will be distributed to guests participating in next month's Global Financial Summit and the Hong Kong Sevens, so that they can "have a taste of our city's culinary offerings during their stay".

This is the second year the event will not take place at a large venue due to the pandemic.

One of the participants, however, told RTHK that he welcomes the format.

"The previous design is talking about participation in a centralised location. But this one is about the customers really going to the restaurants or bars to try and experience the products," said Ryan So, general manager of Dining City.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Hong Kong Bar and Club Association, Chin Chun-wing, said he expects a 20 to 30 percent jump in business for participating bars during the month-long event, themed “Taste Around Town”.

Hundreds of eateries will also be offering discounts and special menus featuring Hong Kong flavours during the festival.
