Financial Secretary Paul Chan on Thursday tested positive for Covid-19.
He's visiting Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and tested positive in a rapid antigen test.
Chan is scheduled to complete his visit and depart for Hong Kong today.
In a statement, the government says he has now cancelled the remaining parts of the visit and will stay in Riyadh "for a short while".
"The minister will seek to comply with relevant health requirements and return to Hong Kong as soon as possible," the statement added.
It's uncertain whether he will be able to take part in the Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit next week, which will be attended by around 200 representatives from leading global financial institutions.
