A man was jailed for four years and three months on Thursday for his role in the mob attack in and around Yuen Long MTR station in July 2019.

Ching Wai-ming, 64, was convicted of rioting and conspiracy to wound at the District Court.

Deputy judge Newman Wong noted Ching was among a group of white-clad men who entered Yuen Long station at around 11pm on July 21.

Wong said Ching had stayed for around eight to 10 minutes, and had attacked at least three people with a cane.

The court also noted that as he left, he waved at other white-clad men signalling them to enter the station.

Although he wasn’t a leader of the attack, he was an active participant, the judge said.

Ching’s lawyer had pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying the defendant's act was not targetted at the government.

But the judge rejected it, saying the target of his act was not the focus of the court.

Ching was the eighth man in the gang who had been jailed in connection with the Yuen Long attack. One had been acquitted.
