Chief Executive John Lee on Sunday said he was saddened after a stampede at a Halloween event in the South Korean capital killed more than 150 people and injured around 150 more.
“It is with sadness that we learnt of the tragedy in Seoul, Korea. I express profound sorrow over the passing of the victims, extend my deepest condolences to their families and wish for a speedy recovery to all those who were injured,” he wrote on social media.
He said the SAR government will closely monitor the incident, and stands ready to provide assistance to any Hong Kong residents who are affected.
The Immigration Department said it has not received any requests for help so far.
