The Strong Wind Signal No. 3 took effect at 4:20pm on Monday as Several Tropical Storm Nalgae edges closer to Hong Kong.
At 4pm, Nalgae was about 630 kilometres south-southeast of the SAR and was forecast to move north-northwest at about 10 kilometres per hour towards the northern part of the South China Sea.
The Observatory said the No. 3 signal will remain in force until at least noon on Tuesday.
The observatory said according to its present track, Nalgae will edge "rather close" to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Education Bureau announced that kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability and schools for children with intellectual disability were suspended for Monday.
The Labour Department, meanwhile, reminded employers to make storm-related work arrangements for staff.
