The observatory said it will consider issuing the No 8 typhoon signal during the day on Wednesday, as severe tropical storm Nalgae edges closer towards Hong Kong.

The exact timing, however, will depend on the local wind situation.

“Although Nalgae would weaken gradually, its degree of weakening remains uncertain. According to the latest forecast, Nalgae will adopt a track closer to Hong Kong and skirt within around 150 kilometres to the southwest of the territory tomorrow (2 November),” the weathermen said in a statement.

The observatory said the Strong Wing Signal No 3 will remain in force before 6am on Wednesday.

It said local winds are expected to strengthen progressively, and the public are advised to stay alert and check the latest weather bulletins.

People have also been urged to stay away from the shorelines, as seas will be rough with swells.
