The government said on Friday that it's cleaned up over 230 places deemed to be hygiene black spots across Hong Kong.

The Home Affairs Department said in the past four months, district officials have removed 290 abandoned vehicles from over a hundred back alleys.

They have also arranged cleaning services at more than 1,200 buildings that don't have owners' corporations or property management companies.

"The [department] will continue to take forward environmental improvement measures with relevant departments to build a clean and hygienic environment," the department said in a statement.

"The government appeals for the joint efforts of members of the public to enhance the city's environmental hygiene and cityscape."

This clean-up operation was undertaken by the District Matters Co-ordination Task Force, one of four formed by Chief Executive John Lee’s administration soon after he took office in July.
