The chairman of the Hospital Authority said on Saturday that a dozen experienced doctors from Guangdong province would come to work in Hong Kong under a new exchange scheme, as soon as relevant authorities give their approval.
Writing on his official blog, Henry Fan said the 12 doctors from top-notch hospitals had been nominated by the province's Health Commission to join the Greater Bay Area Healthcare Talents Visiting Programmes.
Fan said the authority has been negotiating with the mainland administration regarding the exchange programmes for nurses and radiographers, adding that he hoped they would start by the end of the year.
He said he believed the scheme would allow healthcare workers to complement each other and enhance the quality of medical services.
The authority chairman also thanked 400 mainland medical workers who came to Hong Kong to assist in the SAR's fight against Covid earlier this year, saying the collaboration laid the foundation for closer cooperation between healthcare workers on both sides of the border.
