Six hopefuls have submitted their nomination forms for next month's Legislative Council by-election before the nomination period drew to a close on Monday.
They are a member of the Chinese Association of the Hong Kong and Macau Studies, Gary Wong; Chinese University engineering scholar Wong Kam-fai; the New People's Party's Adrian Ho; Lee Kwong-yu from the Federation of Trade Unions; the DAB's Chan Wing-kwong; and general manager of an artificial intelligence firm, Shang Hailong.
A vetting committee will determine within 14 days if they're eligible to run.
If there are more than four validly nominated candidates, a near 1,500-strong Election Committee will vote in the by-election slated for December 18.
The by-election is to fill four Election Committee constituency seats vacated by Horace Cheung, Alice Mak, Sun Dong and Nelson Lam who joined Chief Executive John Lee's administration in July.
