Tributes have been pouring in for Hong Kong DJ and music producer Janette Slack, who died at the age of 42.

In a social media post, her brother, Trevor Slack, announced the death of his sister.

"She was the light and soul of the room," he wrote.

The Hong Kong-born musician had been the highlight of various local and overseas clubs, parties and music festivals, including Clockenflap, and won several international DJ awards.

She was also a record-label owner, composer and teacher.

"It really is a great loss to many communities," the co-founder and music director of Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival, Justin Sweeting told RTHK on Wednesday.

Sweeting who had known Slack for a decade described her as a pioneer and role model in disc-jockeying and an "infectious" person.

"Her legacy will always live on after what she's done, the impression she's made and how she's touched so many people because that circle of people is broad and wide and again it's a very global reach," said Sweeting.

He added that Slack would have been a crucial part of the upcoming Clockenflap festival in March.

"She was always full of ideas and happy to brainstorm, just an incredible creative force."

Slack's brother said the funeral and memorial details will be announced later.
