Chief Executive John Lee has arrived in Bangkok for a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum that begins on Friday.
Lee told reporters that he greeted President Xi Jinping at the airport there.
"I believe we'll have the chance to meet at the actual summit," the CE said, adding that the summit organisers will make the arrangements.
Lee said he has met with the Thai prime minister Prayut Chan-ocha, telling him about Hong Kong’s latest development. The CE also met with the Chinese ambassador to Thailand.
Lee added that he will be promoting Hong Kong to the other Apec leaders at a gala dinner on Thursday.
Speaking earlier in the SAR before he left for Thailand, Lee said he'll make use of the trip to tell good stories of Hong Kong.
He said he will send the message that the city is reopening after the pandemic and connecting with the world. Lee also said he'll be highlighting Hong Kong's distinct advantages.
