Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday and is undergoing isolation in accordance with health regulations.
His infection comes days after Chief Executive John Lee also contracted Covid following a four-day trip to Bangkok, but Wong did not accompany the CE on the visit and had not left Hong Kong recently.
A spokesman for his office said Wong tested positive via a PCR test, and noted that he had worn masks and complied with disease prevention measures at work, including conducting rapid antigen tests regularly.
Wong’s wife, the Commissioner for Labour May Chan, will quarantine at home as a precaution after testing negative for the virus.
