Six people have been deemed fit to run in next month's Legislative Council by-elections, as they battle for four vacancies in the legislature.

The candidates are: Gary Wong, a member of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies; Chinese University engineering scholar Wong Kam-fai; the New People's Party's Adrian Ho; Lee Kwong-yu from the Federation of Trade Unions; the DAB's Chan Wing-kwong; and general manager of an artificial intelligence firm, Shang Hailong.

A vetting committee decided that all six meet the legal requirements of upholding the Basic Law and bearing allegiance to the SAR and the country, and their nominations were therefore validated.

The polls will be held on December 18. Some 1,500 Election Committee members will get to vote.

The four Legco seats have been vacant since Horace Cheung, Alice Mak, Sun Dong and Nelson Lam joined Chief Executive John Lee's administration in July.
