A nurse was on Friday jailed for four years for drugging her ex-boyfriend and stabbing him in the neck with a fruit knife.
The District Court heard that Au Shuk-lam, 28, mixed sleeping pills into some lemon tea she gave the man before stabbing him and then herself.
The victim needed several stitches to close the wound, while the defendant required dozens for her injury.
Au pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.
In sentencing, judge Melinda Chu said that as a nurse, the defendant ought to have known that she could have killed the man.
Chu added that it was an aggravating factor that Au had planned the attack in advance.
The judge stressed that violence is not the solution to problems.
