Two senior American officials held talks with Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng on Sunday and Monday in Langfang, a city neighbouring Beijing, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.
US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink and senior director for China Affairs of the National Security Council, Laura Rosenberger, had an "extensive exchange" of views with the vice foreign minister on international and regional issues of common concern, spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters.
"The talks were frank, in-depth and constructive," Wang said.
Last month, President Xi Jinping told his US counterpart Joe Biden that the world is big enough for both China and the United States to prosper, and stressed that differences between the two countries should not be an obstacle to bilateral relations.
The two leaders met on the Indonesian island of Bali for their first face-to-face discussion since Biden took office almost two years ago. (Additional reporting by Reuters)
