Two people died and 10 were injured in a crash between a bus, a truck and a van in Tung Chung on Friday morning.

The accident happened near Tung Chung Eastern Interchange at around 9am.

Police said the truck and the van were parked in the leftmost lane and six workers were doing cleaning work there when a number E36A Long Win bus rear-ended the truck.

The truck was pushed forward until it hit the van, officers said.

All three vehicles were severely damaged.

The drivers of the van and the truck were killed in the accident.

Four other workers and six bus passengers were injured. Most of them suffered mild abrasions.

Chief Inspector Lau Kam-bun was asked if signs had been put up to notify drivers that cleaning work was taking place.

"We did not find any signs on the ground [showing] that work was going on, but we found some at the back of a vehicle... We are still investigating whether there were signs at the time of the accident," he said.

The bus driver, 28, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
