Hundreds of travellers flocked to Macau on Sunday as Hong Kong-Macau Ferry services resumed for the first time in three years.

The first batch of around 130 passengers from Hong Kong arrived at the Taipa Ferry Terminal shortly before 8.30am.

One man, named Tse, was thrilled at the prospect of again chancing his luck in the casino hub.

"I haven't been to Macau in three years. I'm very excited. I can't wait to go to the casino and play," he told RTHK after arriving Macau.

Another traveller, surnamed Lee, who arrived in the SAR with his colleagues, said he hopes night ferry services between Hong Kong and Macau can soon resume too.

"My colleagues said we should go to the casino first, and earn some money before we decide where else to go. We are happy to be here as we've been stuck in Hong Kong for too long. Hopefully the night ferry services can resume as soon as possible so we can stay longer," he said.

Around 50 passengers took the first ferry from Macau to Hong Kong at 9am, with some saying they wanted to enjoy some sightseeing over the holidays.

Currently, ferries from Hong Kong to Macau are only allowed to stop at the Taipa Ferry Terminal. That left some passengers unhappy. They said they want the main Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal to also be reopened.

Macau authorities said at least 1,500 people had made reservations for ferry services on Sunday.
