The government said on Sunday the LeaveHomeSafe system has been officially shut down, more than two years after it was launched.

The mobile phone app was initially brought in for Covid contact tracing purposes, with more functions added later such as the storing of vaccination records.

The government said with the resumption of quarantine-free travel with the mainland on Sunday and the dropping of most anti-epidemic measures, LeaveHomeSafe had run its course.

"The [Office of the Government Chief Information Officer] received instruction from the Department of Health to delete all visit records in the system previously uploaded from "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile app of confirmed cases. The deletion is completed," it said in a statement.

The office added that a LeaveHomeSafe hotline and the mobile support stations at MTR stations have also stopped operating.

However, it said people can keep the app if they want to continue using its functions, like getting a QR code for PCR tests.
