Hong Kong Marathon organisers say they are dropping a requirement for participants to take Covid tests for the event on February 12.

Previously, runners were told they would have to do a PCR test 48 hours before their race, and a RAT 24 hours before.

“We certainly welcome the [government's] lifting of anti-Covid restrictions, which will enable us, as the [marathon] organiser to provide a better experience for both our runners and also the general public," said Kwan Kee, chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Athletics Affiliates.

The 37,000 runners expected to take part will still need to wear masks.
