Customs officers on Friday said they made a major seizure of suspected unregistered Covid drugs this week, arresting two men and seizing 2,100 boxes of medicine worth a total of HK$7 million.
The men, 40 and 43, were arrested at the airport on Thursday after flying in from India.
"In this operation, we seized three different types of oral Covid drugs, which claim to treat mild-to-moderate symptoms. But since we couldn't see any registration numbers on the packages, we believed the drugs to be unregistered. So, their safety and quality are in doubt," said inspector Hong Yan from customs' syndicate crimes investigation bureau.
Hong added that the seized drugs were being sent to the Government Laboratory for testing.
The two suspects have been charged with importing prohibited articles without a licence and possessing poisons and are due to appear at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts on Saturday.
