Members of the Hong Kong search and rescue team sent to Turkey's Hatay province following Monday's devastating earthquakes rescued three people trapped under six metres of debris on Saturday.

Writing on social media, the Security Bureau said they found the survivors at about 5 pm local time.

The 59-member team has been using drones and search-and-rescue dogs to assist in what is effectively a race against time.

The team is led by Deputy Chief Fire Officer Yiu Men-yeung and comprises firefighters and ambulance crews, as well as officers from the Security Bureau, the Immigration Department and the Department of Health.

"We are very excited and encouraged to be able to find three survivors six days after the earthquake. The team will grasp every opportunity and do its best to find the remaining survivors," the Commander of the HKSAR search and rescue team, Yiu Men-yeung, said.

As the death toll rises, more than a million people have been left homeless and many are huddled in temporary shelters.

Members of the SAR team wearing helmets and protective gear entered a collapsed building to search among the twisted steel bars and rubble before finding the survivors.

No details about them have been released.
