People travelling to the mainland on Sunday have been warned not to try to park at the recently reopened Heung Yuen Wai control point, with officials saying the site is full due to overstaying vehicles.

The government said many vehicles have been left sitting at the car park after their reserved time period expired.

Chief Transport Officer Daniel Hue said people who have booked a space but can't get in will be given a refund.

"Travellers who wish to go to the control point can take public transport, such as bus routes B7, B8, B9, and minibus route 59S," he added.

The Heung Yuen Wai checkpoint opened to individual travellers for the first time on February 6. Before the pandemic, only trucks had been allowed to use the crossing.
