A man has died and another has been left in a coma after their sampan was struck by a speedboat in the waters of Sai Kung on Sunday.

Police have arrested three men who were on the speedboat on suspicion of endangering the lives of others at sea.

The force said the accident happened off Tsam Chuk Wan at about 10 am about 20 metres offshore.

The man was declared dead after being rushed to a marine police base. The other was taken unconscious to Eastern Hospital by helicopter.

The speedboat was taken away by marine police officers for further investigations.
