The Hospital Authority says inspections are under way at Tuen Mun Hospital after a ceiling hoist track used to carry patients broke on Wednesday evening.

The authority received a report that the external cover came off one of the ceiling hoist tracks in the hospital’s Medicine and Geriatrics Rehabilitation Ward.

The cover was about 17 centimetres long and 9.5cm wide.

No one was injured and use of the track in question has been suspended.

The Hospital Authority said the maintenance vendor reported no abnormalities during the latest inspection in August 2022.

Hospital chiefs are now investigating the cause of the incident and checking other such equipment.

The authority has also called on other hospitals to inspect similar equipment.
