Two people have been injured as a result of a fire at a high-rise construction site in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The blaze began shortly after 11 pm on the roof of the site in Middle Road, and was upgraded to a number 3 alarm fire about half an hour later.

The fire was upgraded to a number 4 alarm at about 1:45 am.

Firefighters deployed 2 jets and mobilised 2 breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze.

The two people hurt, thought to be motorists, were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Their condition is not yet known.

130 nearby residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Fiery debris caused small fires at buildings close by but these were quickly extinguished.

The fire also sent debris flying to the roads below and caused the affected section of Middle Road to be closed to all traffic.

The 42-storey building was due to be completed this year and will house the new Mariner's Club and a new hotel.
