Chief Executive John Lee said on Saturday he hoped Hong Kong people will pay attention to and attach importance to the annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as they are of great importance to the SAR.

He was speaking before flying to Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the first session of the 14th National People's Congress on Sunday.

He said he would work with Hong Kong deputies to the NPC and CPPCC to promote the SAR's integration into the country's development and harness the power of patriots governing Hong Kong.

"I also hope that Hong Kong citizens will pay attention and attach importance to the proceedings and outcomes of the 'two sessions', as they are of great significance to the successful implementation of the 'One Country, Two Systems' principle in Hong Kong," he said.

He said he would return to Hong Kong before flying back to Beijing to attend the closing ceremony of the NPC session, adding that he would visit mainland officials in the capital to strengthen cooperation between the two sides.
