Police are investigating after a woman died when she was struck by a heavy goods vehicle after the driver lost control in Sha Tin on Wednesday evening.

The woman was crossing Pai Tau Street towards Sha Tin Rural Committee Road when she was hit by the truck at about 8.10pm. She was taken to the nearby Prince of Wales Hospital with head and leg injuries and was declared dead about 20 minutes later.

The HGV driver, a 63-year-old-man, was arrested and detained on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death. An investigation by the New Territories South special traffic investigation team is under way.
