Chief Executive John Lee has invited lawmakers to go on a duty visit to other parts of the Greater Bay Area in the third week of April, with the exact dates yet to be confirmed.
They will meet provincial and city leaders, and visit facilities connected to IT, green policies, youth development, as well as culture, arts and sports.
In papers submitted to Legco, the government said on Thursday that the trip will allow councillors to see for themselves the latest developments and opportunities in the area, and improve understanding and communication with their mainland counterparts.
The administration said this will allow the two sides to join forces in promoting the high quality development of the Greater Bay Area and enable Hong Kong to better integrate into the overall development of the country.
Lawmakers are expected to discuss the trip during Friday's House Committee meeting.
The duty visit plan was first revealed by Legislative Council president Andrew Leung during the council's spring reception with officials last month.
