The Commissioner for Transport has reminded drivers who have received the new e-toll tag to register for an account as soon as possible, so that they can pay their tunnel tolls automatically when the new payment system takes effect at Tsing Sha Highway on May 7.

Rosanna Law also told motorists who have yet to register for an HKeToll account that they can still use the tunnel, so long as they pay the toll within 14 days of receiving a payment demand.

She stressed all manual booths or Autotoll lanes will be removed once the new system comes into place.

“In reality, even if for any reason a vehicle owner does not have a vehicle tag issued before the launching of the HKeToll, he can still use the relevant tunnels and do payment in arrears. That might be a little less convenient but it is doable,” Law said.

The Transport Department had said it will extend the HKeToll service to all government-owned tunnels within the year.
