The Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday said the island’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is colluding with external forces to provoke independence, and that this is a major threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
The office’s spokesperson, Zhu Fenglian, told a news conference that without peaceful development of cross-strait relations, Taiwan will not be able to have a stable and good environment for investment and business.
"The DPP has continued to challenge the one-China principle. They are acting in their political self-interest and have become a pawn of the US in opposing China," she said.
Zhu also described the People’s Liberation Army’s recent countermeasures in the Taiwan Strait and nearby waters as a serious warning against collusion and provocation by "Taiwan independence" separatist forces with external forces.
She added Beijing is determined to crack down on "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. (Additional reporting by Reuters)
