Secretary for Justice Paul Lam has rejected suggestions that the national security law in Hong Kong undermined people's freedoms.

RTHK will begin airing the TV and radio programme NSL Chronicles II this weekend and Lam was among a group of officials, including Secretary for Security Chris Tang and Director of Broadcasting Eddie Cheung, who attended a launch ceremony on Thursday.

The justice secretary said people who questioned the national security law should put aside their preconceived or subjective views, use reasoning and study the law as well as previous cases, and determine if the security law breaches the rule of law and human rights and freedoms of the people.

Lam also said the national security law strikes the right balance between protecting national security and safeguarding people's rights.

NSL Chronicles II will be aired on RTHK's TV channel 31 and Radio 1 from Sunday.
