Jailed former activist Joshua Wong was on Monday given a three-month prison term for revealing personal information about a policeman who shot and wounded a student during a protest in 2019.

On top of a court order in place outlawing the doxxing of police officers, there was also an anonymity order specifically banning people from revealing details about the policeman involved in the shooting in Sai Wan Ho.

Wong admitted that in August 2020 he posted information about the policeman on social media, pleading guilty to contempt of court.

Ahead of sentencing, prosecutor Martin Ho said that although the post was deleted two days later, it attracted 4,900 responses.

He noted that Wong is a public figure and urged the court to impose a punishment that reflected the seriousness of the matter.

Another defendant, Tsang Chi-sing, was given a 21-day suspended prison term for re-posting information about the policeman and his family on social media.
