The Labour Department is investigating a fatal accident involving a cleaner who apparently fell down an elevator shaft in AIA Kowloon Tower, in Kwun Tong.

Police said the 73-year-old man had been certified dead before they arrived at the tower on Tuesday evening.

Firefighters said they believe he fell into the shaft while carrying out cleaning work.

Officers said it was unlikely that the accident was caused by a mechanical failure, adding that the Labour Department and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department are investigating.
