The Fire Services Department said on Thursday an off-duty staff member is involved in a case in Japan, after media reports said a 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman.
Japanese media reported that police there arrested a Chinese national, identified as a firefighter, on suspicion of sexual assault on Wednesday.
The reports said the suspect had travelled to Tokyo with his wife last Saturday. The next day, he left the hotel alone at around 10:30pm and allegedly dragged a woman in her 20s into a bathroom after asking her to guide him to a ramen shop.
Confirming a case involving an off-duty firefighter, the Fire Services Department said it was looking into the incident in detail.
The department stressed that it attaches great importance to discipline and integrity, adding that it will seriously follow up on violations of the law.
