The Labour Department on Thursday said it is investigating a fatal work accident in Kwai Chung in which a worker died.
The man was hit by a rubber tyred gantry crane at a container terminal while conducting road repair works on Wednesday night.
He was certified dead on the spot.
The department said it has issued work suspension notices to the relevant parties, preventing any work with such cranes.
"We will complete the investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures. We will take actions pursuant to the law if there is any violation of the work safety legislation," the department's spokesman said.
The department said it would issue a work safety alert to the industry, urging them to follow safety precautionary measures in order to prevent similar accidents.
