The head coach of Hong Kong's men's football team, Jorn Andersen, has signed a contract extension that will keep him in the role until 2025.

The 60-year-old's contract had been due to expire in July.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Hong Kong Football Association quoted Andersen as saying the team's improvements since he took charge in December 2021 show they're on the right track.

"I hope to build up a good team for the AFC Asian Cup Finals [in Qatar] and also achieve good results in the upcoming new round of FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifications," he was quoted as saying.

"We have a lot of interesting tasks ahead and I have confidence that the team will do well."

Andersen said the team will continue to play attacking football and try to win every match, saying he hopes fans will be proud and feel entertained.

Last year, the coach led Hong Kong to its first qualification for the Asian Cup finals since 1968.

Having represented Norway as a player at the international level, Andersen managed North Korea for nearly two years before coming to the SAR.
