Sinovac on Wednesday announced it will start selling its “CoronaVac” Covid-19 vaccines on the Hong Kong market this month.

The jab was legally registered in Hong Kong last December, and the company's general manager Helen Yang said a few thousand doses will be sold at an affordable price.

The vaccine manufacturer also plans to donate a few thousand doses of the vaccine to children aged between three and 12. Sinovac said it is discussing the donations with charities and medical groups.

Yang added that the company was making progress on the development of bivalent and trivalent vaccines to combat the mutating virus.

"Currently in mainland China, we are in the process of regulatory approval for the vaccines. In terms of timelines, it will be difficult [to determine], because it is out of the company's control," she said.

Another Covid vaccine manufacturer, Moderna, said on Tuesday it has been granted authorisation to use its Omicron-targeting bivalent booster shot in the SAR.
